You are a Joint-heir – Pastor Jim Scudder, Jr.

Today’s Scripture: Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds. Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high;  Hebrews 1:2-3

How rich was/is Jesus? When we read through the gospels we find a very poor person. We probably could not find anyone poorer in history than Jesus. On the cross, His only possessions were His garments; those were taken from Him. He was buried in a tomb that wasn’t His or His family’s. The Bible says that He never had a place to lay His head.

One pastor of a Rescue Mission made a profound statement when he said that the most important homeless person we ever read about is Jesus Christ. He had nothing! Yet, all that we see around us, He created; all that we see around us, He sustains. He upholds it all by His authority. Jesus gave all of that up to be born in a stable surrounded by common shepherds. He gave up all the glories of Heaven when He came to this earth.

According to the Scriptures, Jesus is the heir of all things. Here is the amazing part! As believers, you and I are going to share in that inheritance! We are joint heirs. We have a union that cannot be dissolved. Romans chapter 8 verse 16 bears witness to this union. “The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God.” The “we” that Paul is talking about are all those who have put their faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. He died and rose again to prove the price was paid in full.

Look at the rich inheritance you have as a believer! You are born again. You are born into God’s family. You have been justified. You have been redeemed. You have been saved. You are guaranteed a place in Heaven!

Romans 8:17 says, “And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ;” Isn’t that incredible? If you’re going through pain, suffering, or hard times, just wait.

Remember to see the big picture from the spiritual perspective. Today, rejoice in the glories that will be revealed to you as a joint heir with Christ. No matter how your day unfolds, reflecting on your eternal inheritance is bound to make you rich indeed!
