| Wisdom is seeing things from God’s perspective.
Benjamin Disraeli said this, “Nurture great thoughts, for you will never go higher than your thoughts.” How important is proper thinking? It is so important that the Bible addresses our thought life over and over again. And I’ve come to know that if God mentions something often, it must mean that He wants us to pay attention. There is a school of thought in society that says, “If you can think it, you can achieve it.” This is the mantra of the new-age and power of positive thinking movement that raises up man as his own god. That is not what the Bible means. There is power for the Christian in proper thinking. This power comes from God’s Holy Spirit working in our lives to transform us into better people. His work begins in the mind because thinking precipitates action. Proverbs 23:7 says this about man: “For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he.” This is why the Holy Spirit-inspired writers of Scripture placed such an emphasis on thinking proper thoughts. The Apostle Paul offers us a guide in Philippians 4:8. The first Psalm says that a wise man daily meditates upon the Word of God, and Isaiah instructs us that God’s thoughts are much higher than ours-therefore, we must pursue Heavenly wisdom. The lesson is clear and direct: If we desire to change our lives, this change must begin in the mind. Pray today, and ask the Lord to help transform your way of thinking into spiritual wisdom. |
